“Jesus, You Raise Me Up”
Central Theme for 2016-17
We first introduced our “Leading by Faith - The Leader in Me” initiative last year. Students were introduced to the 7 Habits, which are based on “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. “The Leader in Me” program was developed to assist schools to adapt a leadership approach for school age children that empower them with the leadership and life skills needed to thrive in the 21st Century.
Our students are learning ways to explore responsibility, problem solving, communication, creativity, teamwork, initiative, self-direction and accountability. Many of the principles presented are based on universal, timeless principles of vision, integrity, teamwork and renewal. The “Leading by Faith – Leader in Me” initiative is evolving very slowly so that we can establish what is meaningful to our teachers and students.
The central theme for this school year is “Jesus, You Raise Me Up”. We started the school year with a big bang! During the opening week of school students entered the building seeing an arc of blue, white, and gold colored balloons and a large hot air balloon cutout in the entry way. Hot air balloons flanked our hallways with inspiring messages.
All of ICS teachers and administrators encourage all of our students to become the best they can be intellectually, morally, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. We are starting to instill leadership and self-reliance principles into our school environment. Examples of this integration are the following:
“Jesus, Raises Me Up” to go Above and Beyond certificates will be awarded to students who exhibit kindness, hard work, and dedication based on Ephesians 4:2 “Be completely humble and gentle; bearing with one another in love.” The Faith Families theme for this year is Christian Unity (see attachment), which will be highlighted, in all of our monthly assemblies. “The Leading by Faith – Leading in Me” initiative will prove to assist every child in developing skills in self-confidence and knowing who they are in Christ.
